all in all, how can cmd mess up your computer? How can cmd mess up your system?
why dont you open the txt file with notepad, much easier. How can cmd mess up your system?
You can certainly mess up your computer but you can equally mess up your computer without it. Just lay off the del and rmdir commands and only type the stuff that you understand and you will be fine. And if you learn enough about things like ipconfig and tracert then you can be a computer hero. It will let you find out what is going wrong on a computer and give you a clue how to fix it.
Command Prompt is a powerful tool and yes, it can ';fux'; your system up pretty bad if you do the wrong things with it. Playing with fonts and pinging websites is OK, but never do any of the following:

- Use DEL commands

- Run, edit, or delete batch files

- Change settings in the registry

- Tamper with files in C:\Windows

Command Prompt can only be taken to such extremes. MS-DOS prompt is more so the program to worry about as it can permanently delete everything on your hard drive.

Command Prompt is more a tool for those who like using old school methods of finding things on their PC.

I hope that helps.
you can really mess up the computer from the command line if you don't know how to use it. you can wipe your whole hard drive and then where would you be. the command prompt should really only be used by people who were into computers when dos was the operating system. by the way windows is for dummys. dos was too hard for most people, so they went to windows so more people would buy computers and they could make more money. we would have been better off if they had stayed with the dos system. that would have kept a lot of the dummys on here away from computers.

You can open a txt file in cmd, you do that with the command ';edit'; followed by it's path or only it's name if you're already in it's directory. You can mess up your computer if you don't know what you're doing, but it seems to me that you're familiar with it.
