Need computer literate person. Possible graphics card prob. Elongated web pages.?

I no nothing about computers I like printers!

I had new computer in Feb with Vistas Home premium.

Worked great and graphics really good and it was fast.

For a while it's been slowing and forever saying it has to close x, y, or z programme as it's not responding, then yesterday it froze and a message come up that the USB was disconnected! There was nothing disconnected so I turned it off and restarted it and they it worked again.

Still being a pain so had enough and decided to wipe it and restore to factory settings - system restore was doing nothing to help.

Wiped yesterday and nothing but problems with the look of pages etc since.

Called for support and very nice man talked me through many options to get it back as it was when I first had it and in the end he said he could do more and I'd have to have a tec from Fujitsu to sort it has it could be its graphics card and it's confused about how it needs to display things.

These are some of the things that are not right with it:

The pages are elongated and there are big gaps down the side of pages that used to fill the screen.

The text is small and very thin.

The graphics are blurry on some things.

It is not showing any options on documents like file etc so I can not send any documents to anywhere else and any documents I have manged to send to computer I have had to right click properties and send each one individual as the 'invert all' or 'select all' option are not there, just organise. view and burn and that's it. There isn't even the close programme button in the left hand corner I have use the red cross to close.

Some picture I saved onto discs and UBS before I wiped it cannot open and are showing up as a paint brush with a blob of paint by them!

If I adjust the magnification this makes the words very unatural looking and uncomfortable to look at and a bit blurry.

My tool bars are about half the depth they were before I reset and even my Word 2007 looks strange and when it opens the title is half the size it used to be as well and all its fonts are showing as thinner than they were.

When Messenger appears after start up the menu is also now only half way up the page instead of full length and the icon for it on the bottom bar is pixelated were as before it was lovely and smooth and glossy looking. The desk top icons are also a bit pixelated and the big clock that it on the side bar is only half as big as it was before.

The font about an 8 and the man tried to change it but it would not budge from it's small size.

This page I am writing on is only about 5 inches wide on my screen but I have a 20 inch screen!

Is it possible it's the graphic card or could it be something else? I know it is not anything I have done as the product support man could not get it right either!

Thanks for any kind answers that take into account I'm a computer no nothing!Need computer literate person. Possible graphics card prob. Elongated web pages.?
have you tried to reset your screen to factory settings. if so then you do have a graphics prob . try a different screen to make sure your screen is not the problem. if it does the same then you need a new graphics card. if your computer is a l/top then you need a new motherboard . if its a d/top then a new card which you can buy easily and fit yourself, just remember your anti static strap before you take the side off the computer and before you take the card from its esd bag.Need computer literate person. Possible graphics card prob. Elongated web pages.?
click and hold down on the page edge and drag it back to full size
When you did a fresh install did you install the latest and correct drivers for your graphic card. If not it wont work.

If you have the correct drivers installed and its still playing up remove the graphics card and use the on-board graphics. If this corrects the issue then your card is knackered and you need a new one.

Most graphic issues are caused by having incorrect or out dated drivers. what make/model is your card? Google it and download the drivers from the manufactures website. Im pretty sure you have a driver issue.

A driver is a piece of software which tells a piece of hardware what to do and how to do it. It allows higher-level computer programs to interact with a hardware device. Having the correct divers installed is vital or your P.C will play up big time.

I don't have a bashrc file in /etc. How can I edit my directory colors?

I already changed the regular colors in the console terminal, to blue fonts and cyan background, but my directory file names and executables are default colors. They don't match it. I looked for the bashrc file in the /etc, but it's not there. I want to add ';eval dircolors /etc/DIR_COLORS'; to it, according to a website I read, so that I can change the default folder colors. My linux system setup is just a text terminal. No splash login. Thanks.I don't have a bashrc file in /etc. How can I edit my directory colors?
Check in $HOME/.bashrc also.

LCD Resolution Question?

I just bought a 17 inch Acer LCD monitor for my HP Pavilion model 7955. A note on the front of the LCD monitor said ';Make sure your system supports 1280 x 1024 resolution';.

I went into display and looked at the settings and found that my computer would only go to 1024 x 768 resolution.

I sent an email to Acer but haven't heard back (they don't give out a tech support phone number or at least I couldn't see one).

I fooled around and now am able to change my resolution to 1280 x 1024........but now the font is so small in IE that and elder like me can barely see it!

Do I need to keep the resolution this high? Or can I go back to something that will allow me to see my screen a bit better?

I suppose the question is: How important is the resolution when it comes to LCD's?LCD Resolution Question?
it is purely what looks best for you, that is not a hardware fault...

the higher the resolution, the smaller everything is, 1024*768 i find to be perfect, it is nothing to do with the monitors quality, purely just size.LCD Resolution Question?
that is saying that the monitor cannot pass that resolution but you can use a lower resolution and you have how much your video card support you must say to the computer to show you only the resolutions the computer can use and is turned on by default

How do I restore my original settings for visuals on my PC?

Recently my family used my desktop PC while I was away at school and changed the settings for the font and display features so everything was bigger to see better. I adjusted the font size using Internet Explorer and I attempted to use Control Panel to fix the rest of the issues but to no avail. Currently no background images are showing up on web pages and some images are missing. Does anyone know how to restore these settings to how they were when I bought the computer? I tried to use System Restore, but it doesn't go back far enough to when I had used the computer last. Any help would be appreciated! How do I restore my original settings for visuals on my PC?
Im guessing it's the screen resolution. Using windows Xp? Right click the desktop or background, and click Properties. Press the 'settings' tab and move the dial to a higer pixel ratio. Try 1280 x 960. Hope this was your issue.

How do I become the Administrator of my computer, again?

I am using Vista in a Compaq laptop. I have fonts @Batang, @Dotum, etc. They are called the True Type Collection. If you happen to run your mouse over them when choosing a font, my computer locks up and all work is lost. I was told to go to the Font folder and just delete them. They will NOT delete. It seems I am not the Administrator of my personal computer anymore!!

Group and User Names are System, Me and TrustedInstaller. System and Me have permission to Read %26amp; excute and Read. TrustedInstaller has Full Control. Of course, I have tried to delete TrustedInstaller and I am not allowed.

How do I correct this problem? How did TrustedInstaller get on my computer and change my settings? How did these problem fonts get on my computer? How do I become the Administrator of my computer, again?
Take it to a shop or turn off restart your computer. How do I become the Administrator of my computer, again?

  • Windows XP display theme no longer existant?

Ok, I have Windows XP on my computer. The display settings are set to have the taskbar, start menu and all the windows in XP Silver Theme. However, when I logged on this morning it was all in the classic theme. With the grey and blue. I customized the size and style of the font as well, which is no longer there.

I tried to change it back to the XP Silver theme, but changing it back it not even possible. It is not shown when I go to the Windows and Buttons in the Appearance under Display Properties. All it has now is Windows Classic Style. Before it had that and Windows XP Style as possible choices.

To try and fix it I have done a System Restore twice, nothing happened; I deleted things, like old and unused files and documents and cookies. I ran Disk Defragmentor, Disc Clean- Up, my spy-ware program, and still NOTHING!

How can I get my XP display themes back?Windows XP display theme no longer existant?
There's only one possible way to disable this, do this and update your result I'll try to help more if it doesn't resolve it.

Right click ';My Computer'; and click properties (Or Windows button + Pause/Break) . Go to the tab that says ';Advanced'; In the ';Performance'; section click ';Settings';. On the first page (';Visual Effects';) you get you have a bunch of checks. Scroll down, the last one is ';Use visual styles on windows and buttons'; Check it (This turns on the Themes service of windows xp).

This is what turns your XP themes on/off. Restart and try changing it again from the Display Appearance Configuration dialog. Or try using the radio buttons to ';Adjust for visual effects'; and then take them off one by one after you get it working.

When you right-click/properties on your desktop, there's two tabs that have the XP option. In the ';Themes'; tab you need to have XP selected from the drop-down list for it to show up in the appearance tab, make sure you have this as well.

The actual Theme for xp is located in:

    C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes and it's called luna.theme.

Try browsing to it and double-clicking it (Make sure you have the visual options enabled though).Windows XP display theme no longer existant?
I know EXACTLY what this problem is. I have had it happen to myself many of times. The Theme Service is probably turned off and what you need to do is to turn it back on. What you must do is click the ';Start'; menu and then on ';Control Panel.'; After you do that click on ';Administrative Tools'; which I think that you must be your computer administrator to be able to possibly access this program. After that click on ';Services.'; Click and hold the scrool bar and scroll down to the ';T's'; and at the end of the ';T's'; you should find ';Themes.'; Click once on ';Themes'; NOT TWICE, ONLY ONCE. At the top left corner of that little screen there should be a blue underlined word that says ';Start'; and the whole sentence should say ';Start the service.'; Click on that. Then it will either automatically switch back to the xp silver theme, or you will have to go right back to your desktop and right click and then click ';Properties'; and then just turn it back on to the xp silver theme and that should do it because it sure did do it for me and now every time that I have that same problem I just do that! If you still need more help after doing this and it doesn't work or something happened feel free to e-mail me at arvettedude@yahoo.com!
See if there are still programs that came with XP and if so, go to display and it should let you change it.

    Mugen EvE Lifebar Help??

How do I install lifebars for EvE screenpack in Mugen? I've looked at videos on youtube and found nothing. Since it's EvE it has a different system and junk. I tried adding the FNT files to the font folder and nothing changed.Mugen EvE Lifebar Help??
I know the EvE you are talking about is a pc game called EvE Online.

    Anyway

    adding the font...

you should add the EvE fonts to:

    Mugen/fonts/';eve's fnt fonts goes in here';

    or

    Mugen/data/eve/fonts/';fnt files';

the life bar needs to be edited so it could link and work with the Mugen system

the lifebar should be like this:

    Mugen/data/eve folder/';containing the lifebar files';.

When you have put the files in the right place do this editing:

    Go to Mugen鈫扗ata鈫扴ystem

    Scroll down to [Files]

    and do this editing

    wfight = data/ggxbars/fight.def';

change the data/ggx etc to the location of the eve folder which should be something like this:

    fight = data/eve/fight.def

Help! Windows (XP) is messed up.?

Yesterday, i used Advanced System Care to clean up my computer, it worked, but then later i had an error of Windows Service Pack 2, cannot remember anything really about what it said, just something that cancelling it could effect windows stability, so i closed the error window. Today when i switched the computer on, instead of the blue screen with the user accounts %26amp; user account pictures, there was a box in the middle of the screen, with my account name, and password entry box. Also it another box came saying ';Windows is logging on'; and applying settings etc, then my desktop came on, and the icons seem different, with sort of shadows around the writing, the graphics seem different, the font, but in control panel i see no changes to the settings. And when i go to move one of the windows, instead of the actual window moving, a grey box moves instead, then the window moves to where i moved the box. So i decided to restart, and got yet another box saying ';Windows is saving your settings'; %26amp; ';Windows is logging off'; and on log on same boxes appeared, nothing changed. And i cannot do a system restore because for some reason there is no restore points for this month or any previous month :S

Also installed updates but no changes were made.

Am on Windows XP Home Edition 2002. Service Pack 2.

    Whats going on?

How can i solve it?Help! Windows (XP) is messed up.?
it sounds like it is starting up in safe mode. you need to go into the bios by tapping f8 repeatedly at the startup brfore windows starts. then make it to where it starts normallyHelp! Windows (XP) is messed up.?
    ';...it worked,...'; Really?

Check around the program/settings to see if there's an ';undo'; or ';roll back changes'; option.
Do you have any data on your PC ? I would check if the data is still there and back it up. I would then try to run a repair from Windows CD.

    .

Here is a link to instructions on how to do different tasks, if you look through the ';How to'; articles there is a step by step guide ';How To Run a Repair Install';.

    http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_x

Although after running a repair, your applications and data should be in tact, it`s always wise to back things up first.

Additionally, this is not the first time that a variety of tools broke Windows, so in gerenal if I was to use one of these tools, I would first make a backup of your data, backup registry and if possible make a backup image of your Windows installation by using either Acronis or Ghost, thus should anything go wrong again, you can then restore from this backup image even if your Windows Restore points are gone...
i don't quite get what's wrong with your pc. most probably its your visual effects. right click on my computer -%26gt; advanced system settings -%26gt; adjust as you like.

If there's any problem, you can always pop in your windows xp installation cd and repair from there. ;)

I need some consultive help with my WIN XP Graphical Interface please!?

I was fiddling with my Windows ';graphics'; settings (I've got Intel Extreme Graphics) and have now made some inadvertent change because of which the ';fonts'; don't appear as crystal clear (on reducing their size) as they previously used to. The visibly clean interface, of my fonts - while browsing, editing a document - or doing any font-related computer activity is not the same anymore.

How do I enable the best graphics, perfect texture and high pixels detailing to the best of my computer's graphical ability?

    Please help.

Miscellaneous details: I've got WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL 32-bit, Intel Celeron Processor 1.7Ghz 256 MB RAM (with Intel Extreme Graphics) and did this stupidity on the suggestion of a utility program (Advanced System Optimizer) that advised me on how I could lessen the ';excess graphical pressure'; off my computer :-P or whatever...I need some consultive help with my WIN XP Graphical Interface please!?
You said that the fonts don't appear as crystal clear as they did. Now this may depend on the type of monitor you have but can make a difference either way. If you have a LCD display it is very likely that you turned off clear type. It can also make a difference on CRT monitors but not as noticeably so. To turn it back on go to Control Panel %26gt; Display %26gt; Appearance and click on the Advanced tab then go to Effects and under ';smooth edges of screen fonts'; select ';Clear Type';. For further fine tuning the way clear typing works you can download the Clear Type Power Toy for Windows XP below.

If that doesn't work, post back and let me know.

No need to be sorry. You may have checked but could it be that your display resolution is set too low. If it's a LCD panel, you need to run it at it it's native resolution which should be maximum for it.

Maybe someone else can think of a few ideas that I may not be hitting on.I need some consultive help with my WIN XP Graphical Interface please!?

How do I stop Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 from being retarded?

Please help. I am making a PowerPoint presentation for class and the system keeps throwing in all these extra spaces between my words. I've tried changing the alignment, the font, I've tried fixing the kerning, I've even picked around with the character spacing and it will NOT go away. I'm getting pissed.

I try to type ';a phrase such as'; and I get ';a ph ra s e su c h a s';. It's getting on my nerves. When I try to backspace to delete the huge spacing between the words, it goes ahead and deletes the letter. Please help. How do I stop Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 from being retarded?
First thing to do - run diagnostics and update your software...

Round Office pulldown menu --%26gt; PowerPoint Options (at the bottom) --%26gt; Resources --%26gt; probably try diagnostics first, it might send you to updates anyhow.

2nd (and I apologize in advance if this sounds patronizing), but do you actually have the font installed on the computer? You could be working on a file created somewhere else and PowerPoint is just trying to render a replacement and it's choking. In the font pulldown, do you see a TT in front of the font you are using? If it is blank or there is a question mark - you don't have the actual font.

3rd - there have been know issues with OpenType above a certain size, though it's more the opposite - type piles up on itself, it doesn't spread out. Nevertheless, if you are using OpenType, not TrueType, that could be your problem.

4th - make sure you don't have Adobe Type Manager installed (I used to use it in the good old days, but now that you don't need it, it can cause problems).

5th - make sure you have an up-to-date, windows certified printer driver installed. Even if you aren't hooked up to a printer. I can't remember how you fake it, but you could google it and find out - this definitely messes with PowerPoint.

And some questions if the above didn't help - is this happening all the time? Is it happening with all fonts? Do you have effects applied to the text?

EDIT: I've had my PowerPoint get messed up when I've opened a file from someone in Japan or Korea. Even though it looks normal and there are no non-English characters, something weird happens. I have fixed it with the repair feature. You didn't actually say if you've run diagnostics and repair - I still think they could help. There's always a reinstall.

FYI: I have seen your problem - the type reminds me of spread out teeth in someone's mouth. I just can't remember what I figured was going on. But I fixed it. Or worked around it. Or something. How do I stop Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 from being retarded?
Have you tried creating a new PPT file and typing in it? If the problem is restricted to the described file the file itself or a graphic within it may be corrupt. I have had corrupt graphics create similar problems--even altered font sizes.

    Hope this was helpful.

Problems with Japanese language in MAC?

    Hello,

I recently added the feature that allows me to change from Japanese to English on my MAC, the system is 10.4. Its very handy, however I have encountered a few problems, if you are able to answer them that would be amazing!

After adding the Japanese feature, most of my programs when opened type in Japanese. Ex. when I open the internet, or word, instead of typing in English, it automatically types in Japanese. In word, I've tried changing the preferences so that the font isn't a japanese one, but it wont allow me to do that, it automatically goes back to this Japanese font which makes it type in Hiragana.

Its really annoying having to open my programs and then change the language back to english. I dont want to remove it because I need it for my classes.

How can I make English the automatic language for all of my programs?Problems with Japanese language in MAC?
In ';System Preferences'; click ';International'; -%26gt; ';Language'; and then drag English so is is higher in the list than 日本語 (Nihongo)

I also use Japanese sometimes and that is how I keep my computer in English except when I really want Japanese. I also recommend that you click ';Input Menu'; and at the bottom check the ';Show input method in menu bar';.

I'm trying out Linux for the first time. For some reason, drop down boxes and some type is larger than other type. I'm not sure why. It makes it very difficult. Text that is too large includes: the text I type in when logging in, drop down menus on the internet, and misc text on the internet. Some pages look fine. I did find under system%26gt;appearance%26gt;fonts that all fonts are Sans 10 pt font. I even tried changing everything to Serif. Why are my Fonts/Graphics all screwed up in IE7 all of the sudden?

I downloaded a picture last night and set it as my desktop image. Now for some reason in IE7 my font looks different (even though it says it the same in the settings), text both runs together has weird spaces inserted in words on the screen, and grahics looks rough and like they are being viewed in a much lower resolution. Also we pages seem to not auto adjust to the size of the browser window when they prviouslly would. This is even after I changed th desktop back to the picture I had before (if that was having any effect on something). Web pages still look correct using Firefox.

I tried to do a system restore, and that seems to fix things, but it screws up my Windows Live One Care software and I don't know how to fix that once I revert back to a previous date.

For reference I am using a Dell 24 inch monitor and my resolution is set at 1900x1200.

  • What is Apple - IMac's ';word'; document?

The IMac is my home computer (new) and I need simple navigating instructions on what is similar to the Word document and how to change text and fonts. I can not use my office computer (Dell) to revise my resume and this is the system I am only use to working with. Please help. What is Apple - IMac's ';word'; document?
The application that comes with Macs is called TextEdit (found under Applications). It's better than WordPad, but it's worse than Word.

The Apple equivalent is iWork with Pages being the Word processor (though most people just get the Mac:Office regardless of it being more than iWork). What is Apple - IMac's ';word'; document?
It is called Pages. Works like word. The icon is a purple ink jar with a pen accross it.
Your mac probably came with a free 30 day trial of Microsoft Word -- check the discs that came with it.

If not, use Neo Office -- it is free open source software, and it can open and save Word documents

    http://www.neooffice.org

    Hope this helps!
There is also a free open source suite called Open Office, which does what MS Office does, if you need that kind of capability.

Text Edit, from Apple is a very simple program, without many features. It's a good copy %26amp; paste tool, which does let you use any font, so you can add some style to your resume.

But if work is your need, I'd suggest the free open source versions listed here...unless your boss will flip for a full MS suite for you.

You will want to edit the .css file (css=Cascading Style Sheet). It has definitions for the style of all of the site's parts (fonts, colors, etc.)
I like webmonkey, they're fun, they have an area for beginners to check out and their info is well done: http://www.webmonkey.com/

I really like their HTML cheat sheet:

FYI: Some of the intro info on HTML does not contain the latest ins and outs of HTML...many people use CSS for formatting text and HTML to just ';place'; the text on the web page. But HTML is the place to start...then you'll be ready for Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and you'll learn about more ways to format stuff than you can shake a stick at!

hey im a pro at web design and i can do all the html and **** but i still use dreamweaver i recomend u do the same it can do copy and paste and if you dunno how to do something you can still use the code add me on yahoo messenger if you have anymore questions
if you download and use Web Page Maker V2, this is a small but very good programme, lets you put images text exactly where you want them, literally wysiwyg, it also has an option to insert code etc....

once you add your pages, all you do is click on the add menu, choose your style/button types and it links all the pages to the buttons. then once you have done, you export to html and then upload through your ftp

Please, will someone very smart PLEASE help me? :( [question is worth points (not saying how much)]?

please read ALL details: I am using Windows XP SP3 (but am not sure if it was 1st SP2 or not) but my problem that I want to fix immediately (or asap [but with all my hope than hopefully immediately]) is my Windows XP themes. The computer I use used to be my parents computer that they got back around mid 2007 with Windows XP (and it never ran any newer nor older os) and sometime while our computer guy was fixing it for them just last year back in '09 and when he was done it was in classic view and since than it was stuck there. If I go to display properties in the themes tab and go to the drop down menu it says all my themes are there but when i click on Windows XP everything else returns to normal except for the Windows %26amp; buttons they stay windows classic. now under my appearance tab still in display properties on my top drop down menu I only have an option for Windows Classic style (of course all the color schemes are there and font sizes. also if i go to change a color scheme, font size, or both on my windows %26amp; buttons it will stick when i go back to themes tab and select Windows XP. this problem is in all user accounts, even new ones i just create I tried ALL i can think of and really want this fixed asap (hopefully immediatly) I tried going to themes tab, selecting windows classic, applying, than goin back to Windows XP but the classic style windows %26amp; buttons still stuck. i also can't do a system restore b/c it only goes to march 2010, and i'm to afraid to go to last configuration settings that worked (not exact wording) (under F8 at startup) because of files (which I can backup) and programs (which i cant and not sure if I have all discs needed) plus im worried about drivers and stuff too. lastly i tried downloading a different theme ( i just tried the zune theme) hoping it would trigger something but it didnt and i doubt any other special theme download or multiple special theme downloads will and besides i dont want all those weird themes, just the all my regulars back. Please, will someone very smart PLEASE help me? :( [question is worth points (not saying how much)]?
I don't claim to be a professional, and I will state up front that you should contact Microsoft for an official solution, but I can offer some advice.

The first, and definitely most painless option is to virus scan, as some viruses can stop certain programs from working.

It sounds like you may have some corrupted system files. You can try to repair your system files. If you have the OS cd, you can tell your computer start from the CD.

If you don't know how to do that, the first thing you need to do is start up your computer. If you do, skip to the next paragraph. When given the option, press F2 (or indicated button) to ';change system settings. This will open up your system bios. Now don't play with any ofthe settings, but press the right arrow key until it gives you the option to ';adjust drive to start from'; or something to that effect. Using the pgup and pagedn keys to change it so that the CD drive is on top. Keep going right until you get to the screen that lets you ';save and exit';, select that. Your computer will restart and you will be prompted to ';press any button to start from disc'; or the like, and do so.

Now that you have started from the disc, navigate the menus (pick language and such) until you get to the main window (the one that gives you the option to install the OS. Find where it gives you the option to repair your system files instead, and tell it to do a full system restore (or the equivalent presented).

Hopefully one of these helped. Once again, I'm not an expert, and if these don't work, you should contact Microsoft.

How do you do the little heart thingy?

There are other ways, but people will tell you what '; they '; do,

but they wont say what operating system, what computer, what FONT, what browser, etc. so what they do may not work.

Maybe someone will tell you clearly what do in english, with the

details ( for a change ) instead of stuff like '; press ;%26gt;@ '; etc.

which only works on their own computer.

When I cut and paste the entire symbol character set, including the four playing card symbols with the heart, I get this garbage instead, but if I cut and paste some elses heart off the web, I

get a heart.. hope someone who really knows, posts the correct way to generate a heart on any computer, since I cant.

    NOTE :

see what I mean - all the answers above do not work,

and not one person said what OS/browser/Font/computer they were using. I tried them all ( unless you take the guy who said ';thats just a symbol '; as though stating the obvious was of any help at all ! With answerers like that, why bother....)

It may or may not work with Word files, but it is worth a try.

Go to a command prompt and navigate to the folder where the files are kept.

    Enter the command

    copy /b filename1.doc+filename2.doc+filename3.do?file_full.doc

That will append file_full.doc with all files that are named.

This dang computer is driving me crazy! I have erased a bunch of programs that I don't use to make it run fast

but now I can't print a word document because it says to close other programs that are running ( And I can't tell which ones are running) plus it automatically backs up all files and I don't want it to do that. And NOW I can't remember what I did to erase the programs. I have ONE program on here that I can't find my original disk to. If it weren't for the fact that I want to save that one program I would do a complete system restore. My questions: How do I stop my files from being backed up? How do I save the one program to do a system restore? How do I find out which programs are running so I can print word documents again? And finally, when I do print, no matter what size font I type in, it ALWAYS prints in a 10 font. how do I change that? This dang computer is driving me crazy! I have erased a bunch of programs that I don't use to make it run fast
The only program I ever had that backed up my files without my knowledge was Norton. If you find that this is the case with you, then you have to know that the fact the backup exists makes it almost impossible to get Norton off your system.

To track down backups quickly, you can go to Start%26gt;Search, and have your system search for all files with a .bkf extension.

Then, again, if it's the case of Norton, uninstall the program and get something else.

Your other problems working with Microsoft Word indicate that you are new to working with the program and with setting your printer parameters. There are no system problems involved with anything you've said this regard.

BTW, Windows may warn you that it will automatically back up your documents as you go. But it's assumed that you are going to ';save'; the document afterwards anyway, so no harm is done.

Some printers don't take font instruction from your system, so no matter what you set on the printer, it will print in a default font.

Then, you speak of ';System Restore';, while I know what you mean is that you would like to reinstall your OS from scratch. Two very different actions. Know what you are doing when you choose.

If I only had one file to worry about, I can't imagine any that could be so serious that it would keep me from restoring my system.

If you've lost a program, the best way to find it is to right-click My Computer; select, Explore, then Local Disk c:, then, Programs.

How do you change this thing in ur compueter thing ?

I admit, this is going to be a fairly dumb, simple question...

I recently upgraded to Windows XP and originally font of the icons on my desktop didn't have the boxed background color around it (like all previous Windows versions had). The background image comes all the way up to the edge of the letter. I must of made some change somewhere, because now I've got that ugly boxed background color around it again (in Windows XP).

Anyone have any ideas where that setting is? I've gone nuts trying to find it. Any ideas would be appreciated.'

i found this quetion online and i have been having the same problems. there was an answer which said

Go into your system properties, the advanced tab, performance settings, visual effects, use drop shadows for icons on the desktop

but i don't know where my system properties r please helpHow do you change this thing in ur compueter thing ?
I will give you step by step instructions:

    1. Right click on ';My computer.';

    2. Click ';Properties.';

    3. Go to ';Advanced'; tab.

    4. Under the Performance category, click ';Settings.';

    5. Select the ';Adjust for Best Appearance'; and then click ';Apply.';

This should work, although if this does not, try this:

    1. From the desktop, ';right'; click and select ';Arrange Icons By';

    2. Towards the bottom of the menu, make sure that ';Lock Web Items on Desktop'; is unchecked.

    Hope this helps!

You can't change the color of the font that is printed to the console (System.out.print). Once you progress in Java, you'll learn how to create graphical user interfaces (GUIs), which will allow you those options. But for all practical purposes, the console that you are printing to is specifically used for debugging code and learning to program. So im in a java class in highschool and were assigned to make a game. How do i change the color of the dice?
You'll need a graphical interface to manipulate the color of any output. Any interactions you have with the console don't allow changing the color.

    Obama's 'Change' Is Socialism

By: Michael Reagan Article Font Size

The other day, I went to a Hollywood luncheon crammed with producers, directors, writers, and other film industry notables.

One of them, Larry Gelbart of “MASH” fame, spoke telling the group that since capitalism has failed, why don’t we try socialism?

Try socialism? Take a sip of it and see how it tastes? It doesn’t work that way.

There’s an old saying that you can’t be half-socialist any more than you can be half-pregnant; get knocked up with a socialist fetus and you’ll have to deliver a full-born Marxist. There’s nothing in between. Try it, you’ll like it; and if you don’t, as the lads in the Gestapo used to tell people, they had ways to make them like it.

Larry Gelbart gorged himself at the capitalist table and came away with untold millions, now safely banked, and continues to collect even more millions from never-ending reruns of the “MASH” sitcom. Having made his bundle from our capitalist free-enterprise system, he seems to be telling us now that the rest of us should get in the socialist bread line and eat crumbs while he feasts on caviar.

One of the realities of this age is that the great mass of the American people haven’t traveled abroad to see how the rest of the world lives, a lot of it under dreary socialist regimes with stalled economies and no real chance for advancement for the ordinary citizen.

Moreover, our shoddy educational curriculum that has left most younger Americans so deficient in the study of history that vast numbers of them think George Washington was a Civil War general, or a lumberman who chopped down cherry trees. They have no real understanding of the economic system that allowed us to become the wealthiest and most powerful nation since the Roman Empire ruled most of the known world 2,000 years ago.

Given that mournful reality, the moment the economic Rolls Royce engine that drove this nation to the top of the hill stalls, instead of installing new spark plugs to get it going again, they go looking for an alternative mode of transportation.

In the present case, Obama and the Democrats are directing them to Larry Gelbart’s used-economic system lot where he shows them a jalopy with a fancy paint job on the outside and a one-cylinder motor inside that goes chug-chug.

Listening to the advice of a man who made his name and his money on a show about America’s military at war — yet told the same audience that our armed forces are nothing but “mercenaries” — doesn’t seem the smartest thing to do.

We are now a few days away from an election in which one of the presidential candidates is trying to sell that jalopy on Larry Gelbart’s lot and convince us that it is really a luxury limo that will get hundreds of miles to the gallon and carry us off to the promised land, where the rich will be impoverished and the middle class enriched and everybody will be deliriously happy.

Call Barack Obama’s program socialism, however, and he’ll swear on a stack of Qurans it isn’t. He calls it change. He says it’s fairness, not Marxism.

    Oh?

How does he explain the proven fact that he has been wallowing in a sty surrounded by fervent socialists and sharing in their swill for most of his life?

According to Fox’s Bill Sammon, his messiahship recalled that when he attended Occidental College in Los Angeles ';to avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully,'; he wrote in ';Dreams From My Father,'; his memoir. ';The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists.'; And that was his milieu for all his years in Chicago.

To anyone familiar with socialism, Obama’s programs fit comfortably within the pages of Karl Marx’s playbook, the root of which is the redistribution of the wealth, the key to the entire Obamian vault.

What’s mine is yours, and he’s the middle man.

It’s socialism lite, and it can only evolve into socialism heavy. Remember, you can’t be half-socialist, and Barack Obama knows it.

After 2 years of listening to Obama campaign, we finally know what ';Change'; is? Socialism?
And after two years, you still haven't figured it out.

When will they ever learn? After 2 years of listening to Obama campaign, we finally know what ';Change'; is? Socialism?
I come from a socialist country and i'll tell you that there is far less crime. People don't rob each other near as much as they do here in the states
The reason McCain is losing is that the majority of Americans are smarter than you. No offense.

We know that “spreading the wealth” does NOT mean socialism.

We know that the progressive tax has been a part of our country for the last 92 years. We know that it’s NOT new, and that it’s NOT scary.

We know that RONALD REAGAN “spread the wealth” by expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit (the single MOST redistributive provision in the history of our tax code), and that Reagan was NOT a socialist.

We know that the highest tax bracket under Obama’s plan is 10% LOWER than the highest bracket was under Reagan.

We know that McCain HIMSELF was for the “socialist” progressive tax system…before he was against it. Did you not get that memo? See for yourself:

Has anyone else had trouble with XP SP3? Everything has changed to italics.?

Last night, I downloaded and installed XP SP3 and it totally destroyed the look of my system. Everything changed to italics - icon labels, headers, everything in every program. The effect in Outlook 2003 was even worse. In Outlook, the font size became larger as well as italicized and each message on the folder lists was in bold so I could no longer tell which had been read and which had not. I found it impossible to work with and the larger font was very difficult to read and of course nothing fitted properly on the display anymore.

The Outlook 2003 effects were unbearable so I did a System Restore back to earlier yesterday and that fixed Outlook and everything else, except Yahoo!Answers. Everything in Y!A is still italicized - this message as I type it and everything else on every screen. I don't like it and would like to get rid of the italics but can't work out how to do it. Please, can someone help? Did this happen to anyone else?Has anyone else had trouble with XP SP3? Everything has changed to italics.?
you could do something like this:

download CCleaner, a very useful and simple program.

Then open it and go on 'Tools'.

Select the last upgrade SP3 that you installed and uninstall it.

Just to make sure to not lose something, better if you save your important files into some pendrive or something like that.

Maybe you donwloaded an italian version of SP3, or at least an italian 'arrangement' of it.

In the website in which you download that upgrade there should be showed from which server you are gonna get it.

  • Microsoft Excel 2007 - Changing colour of text in comments?

I have recently changed over to Excel 2007 after many years with the previous version.

In the previous version that I was using, when adding a comment to cell, I could tell the program which colour I wanted to write the text in and highllight it if needed.

The 2007 version doesn't seem to allow you to choose the colour of the comment text nor does it allow you to change the colour. It would appear that you are stuck with black, although it is possible to change the font style and size as well as being able to choose the options Bold, Italic and Underlining.

I found that being able to choose the colour of comment text was useful, (at least to me anyway). Highlighting also came in handy on occasion, but I can't see how to do that either.

Am I missing something or is the option for this somewhere else in the vast menu system?

I have a document that will be using the numbering system for references. At the end of the sentence that requires a reference, how do you enter a number so it appears little and above the end of the sentence. The person who wrote the document has just used normal sized font numbers and I need to change it to a little number to be in line with normal referencing systems used.

How do you hack the system password?

I know its possible to hack into administrator accounts and change their passwords but what about the system password? I have looked everywhere and I can't seem to find anything about how to hack the system password, or either it shows me how to hack the administrator but I don't want that. Just in case anyone is confused as to what I am talking about, the system password appears as soon as the computer boots up (if it is set) before it even asks for the administrator password. It is an all-black screen, with white font that ask for a password and if you get it wrong too many times the computer freezes automatically as a safeguard to force the ';unknown user'; to shut it down. I assumed there might be a reason why I can't find it anywhere, like if maybe it were illegal to do it, but still its only an assumption.

I know this was long but I appreciate your patience and hope someone can help me, thanks! How do you hack the system password?
... BIOS password. Not system password.

Those are very easy to reset.

    1. Shutdown your computer

    2. Unplug it from all cables

    3. Open it

    4. A copy ( because its late and i am tired ) : ';Most motherboards manufactured over the last decade or more use a battery to sustain the dynamic Bios/CMOS settings for the motherboards PROM chip. These dynamic settings are those manually set by either the computers manufacturer or you, the user. There are two ways to erase these dynamic settings, by either resetting a jumper on the motherboard itself (referred to as a ';clear CMOS'; jumper), or by physically remove the power from the computer (disconnecting the power plug) and then removing a battery (used to maintain power to the PROM chip that contains the Bios/CMOS information) from the motherboard.';

To sum it up : remove the motherboard`s battery. That will reset it back to default / manufacture setting ( meaning : no password ).

    Hope it helped.

More computer information can be found at : http://www.ecuhq.comHow do you hack the system password?
Check this site out, it will give you files that need to be burned to a CD, but will then find out all the passwords on the system:

    http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/download

PS, you need to Boot off the CD.

    Hope that helps~
This means that someone has set a BIOS password to prevent unauthorized persons from using the computer. To reset it you need to open the computer so you can see it's main circuit board and remove the battery (normally a watch battery) from the board for around 10 minutes. This is normally enough for the BIOS to forget all it's settings and password but is a pain to do.
there is an linux computer-autostart cd that ';hard break'; the user password of YOUR OWN computer.

it is 100% freeware, a bootable ISO image to be burn.

    download it at http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/

but most likely you can safe-mode and enter admin's account, then:

    STEP 1 . CLCIK - START MENU !

    STEP 2 . TAKE ';RUN';

STEP 3 . RUN ';mmc'; - Microsoft Management Console

There u get a new NEW WINDOW - name Console

    STEP 4. Click FILE TAB

    STEP 5. TAKE '; ADD / REMOVE ';

STEP 6. Click '; Add..'; - (Child window)

STEP 7. ';Add Local User and Groups '; From the category

STEP 8. THEN CLICK - OK

    STEP 9. CLICK USER

Now u can see all USER account

STEP 10. Right Click on any user u want to change !

    STEP 11. Choose '; Set Password ';

STEP 12. Type NEWPASSWORD - and click OK !

to create a new (with blank password) account for yourself.

another options are to brute force the password to see what it was set to, then you must obtain a copy of the system's SAM database and use a tool such as L0phtcrack to brute force crack the password. To get a copy of the SAM database, use NTFSDOS or a Linux boot disk with NTFS drivers on it. Either of those tool will allow you to boot a system from floppy and then read the installed NTFS partitions. You can find NTFSDOS at Winternals (http://www.winternals.com,) while Linux boot disks are available at various sites such as Ken Pfiel's NT Toolbox Web site (http://www.nttoolbox.com)

And every fair from fair sometime declines,

    By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd;

But thy eternal summer shall not fade

    Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;

Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,

When in eternal lines to time thou growest:

So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,

So long lives this and this gives life to thee.Trying to chg email signature back to original msg. get error msgs showing sign too long. how can I chg it?
I had this problem one time a long time ago. What I did to fix this issue was to erase the whole signature. If you are in the 'Color and Graphics' mode, click on the 'view HTML' box and erase any coding you may see there. Save your changes. Then, go back in and draft your signature again and save. This should cure your issue and you should be able to save it with ease.

If the problem continues, go to the help page titled ';How do I add or save a signature?'; located at http://help.yahoo.com/mail/send/send-10. click on the 'Contact Us' button at the bottom of the page, fill out the form that loads, and click 'Send' to escalate this issue to the Yahoo! Mail customer care team.

How can I get Firefox 3 for Mac to display the heart character?

I've been searching around, and while this isn't the most important issue in the world, it's annoying me. None of the suit symbols work, but the most commonly used one is the 鈾? Now, this works fine for me in Safari, but since Firefox is my default I'd like these characters to appear. In all the forum postings I've found, I've yet to see anyone post a real solution to this problem. I've changed my default font to every available system font, and that hasn't made any difference. How can cmd mess up your system?

how can the little Command Prompt bugger fux with your computer? cayse ive gotten into the habit of playing with it, you know, little stuffs, like changing the font and color to make it look cool. i has windows xp, so if that helps XD

oh, and i ';pinged'; yahoo.com, and my dad, who used to be a programmer for microsoft, sed that sends out your info to the desired reciever, but other ppls can see it and mess your stuff up. so,,,uhh, yeah XD

and recently, i asked my step dad how to open up a .txt file in cmd, and he sed that i shouldnt even be near cmd....(can you do that, btw?)

all in all, how can cmd mess up your computer? How can cmd mess up your system?
why dont you open the txt file with notepad, much easier. How can cmd mess up your system?
You can certainly mess up your computer but you can equally mess up your computer without it. Just lay off the del and rmdir commands and only type the stuff that you understand and you will be fine. And if you learn enough about things like ipconfig and tracert then you can be a computer hero. It will let you find out what is going wrong on a computer and give you a clue how to fix it.
Command Prompt is a powerful tool and yes, it can ';fux'; your system up pretty bad if you do the wrong things with it. Playing with fonts and pinging websites is OK, but never do any of the following:

    - Use DEL commands

    - Run, edit, or delete batch files

    - Change settings in the registry

    - Tamper with files in C:\Windows

Command Prompt can only be taken to such extremes. MS-DOS prompt is more so the program to worry about as it can permanently delete everything on your hard drive.

Command Prompt is more a tool for those who like using old school methods of finding things on their PC.

    I hope that helps.
you can really mess up the computer from the command line if you don't know how to use it. you can wipe your whole hard drive and then where would you be. the command prompt should really only be used by people who were into computers when dos was the operating system. by the way windows is for dummys. dos was too hard for most people, so they went to windows so more people would buy computers and they could make more money. we would have been better off if they had stayed with the dos system. that would have kept a lot of the dummys on here away from computers.

    jerry
You can open a txt file in cmd, you do that with the command ';edit'; followed by it's path or only it's name if you're already in it's directory. You can mess up your computer if you don't know what you're doing, but it seems to me that you're familiar with it.

The file is in computer language and you wont be able to change it to anything that is readable, you will have to try another way to do what ever it is you are doing.
You might be able to get something out of it if you open it in an Hex editor (I use XVIII) but you'll need some experience in that as well.

Also, anything that appears in [] is a character that your computer can't display. It may have an ASCII value between 0-255, just it's not readable.

.dat files are rarely text in the first place.

You'll need to find out what program created it and use that program to read it. Unfortunately, ';.dat'; is generic, it tells you nothing of what program you need.

How do I reset the default font for windows XP?

i'm not even sure what happened, but

how do I change the default font used on the desktop and most everywhere in XP (including other programs, such as AIM or iTunes)? It is to small and has a shadow making it hard to read. And what is the default font for windows XP?

here's 2 pictures to show you what it used to be, and what happened to it =/

    OLD ONE I LOVE: http://i26.tinypic.com/2qdn8mq.jpg

i tried doing a system restore, and that didn't help.

i also tried going to display properties%26gt;appearance%26gt;advanced

but it wouldn't let me change the default font there.

    PLEASE EMAIL ME @ cashcroppimp@gmail.com

thank you.How do I reset the default font for windows XP?
I can't see a difference between the two pictures. But you can change the icon font at Display properties, Appearance, Advanced, Item.

How does the Hello Kitty Online chat system work?

can someone PLEASE explain it to me?!

i get really confused by the color coding and stuff.

someone please explain to me each color and how to change the rooms!

especially green because when someone talks to me in green font idk how to talk back. How does the Hello Kitty Online chat system work?
diff colors represent when you're talking to diff sets of people..

    green = your guild

orange = people in your current map

    white = people near you

    and the rest i haven't deciphered :)

you don't get to ';change rooms';. all the chats that you are ';allowed'; to see will turn up in the same box.

you can change who you address your comments to - like if you want to say stuff to your guild members u press the button that looks like a bee and select ';guild'; then what u say will only be seen by ur guild members..

have fun and isnt it an awesum game :PHow does the Hello Kitty Online chat system work?
    it doesn't

    enjoy your kitten fetish games

    alone
Well to change rooms...at the bottom left of the chat box(inside) there's a little square that has something that looks like a cellphone and 2 pieces of lands, click that and you can change rooms/channels

I'm still trying to figure out everything else.

Why is my Safari browser displaying reverse italics?

I'm pretty Mac proficient, but I'm borrowing a computer and it is incredibly annoying to read everything in the Safari browser window in reverse italics. Even what I type in the search box or on a page is in reverse italics. I've tried System Preferences, the Font Book, etc., but I can't find how to change it to a standard font. Why is my Safari browser displaying reverse italics?
Have you tried looking in the Safari prefs? If that doesn't work, then I have not the shabbiest idea.

Should we replace the birth of Christ as the dividing line on the calendar?

    %26lt;font color=';red';%26gt;From and e-mail I just got that I thought was interesting:%26lt;/font%26gt;

The Kentucky Board of Education has voted to take the first step

in redefining how America dates time. The board voted to include a new secular system of dating the calendar, BCE (Before Common Era) and CE (Common Era), and added it to the BC (Before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini, Latin for ';in the year of our Lord';) method. The new secular system of time dating will appear in the curriculum and other materials used by Kentucky educators thereby replacing the birth of Christ as history's dividing line. The system is being included in textbooks across the nation.

The new system would change 2006 AD (Anno Domini) to 2006 CE (Common Era). The thinking is that AD and BC are a violation of the constitution because of religious preferance.Should we replace the birth of Christ as the dividing line on the calendar?
No I do not. We shouldn't replace something that's been in place for 2000 years (I think) just to be ';politaclly correct';.

Installed a new operating system, now my screen is weird?

Hi, I just recently installed a new operating system to my Windows Vista laptop and now the screen and words are kinda blurry. The icons are a little bigger, the internet pages are weird- they're bigger than usual, and I've tried everything to fix it (changed DPI font, display settings, and everything). Can anyone help me change my screen back to how it used to be? I installed an operating system using the Operating System disc that came with the laptop. I also have the Drivers and Utilities disc as well. Which things in there should I install onto my laptop? Or do I install all of it?

Thanks so much!Installed a new operating system, now my screen is weird?
Install the whole driver disc, if there is a newer driver already loaded windows won't let you load an older driver without a bunch of warningsInstalled a new operating system, now my screen is weird?
    install your video card driver..
    change the resolution

    start-control panel-personalize-resolutions

tinker with the different resolutions untill u get one u like
if you haven't changed the resolution already do it... idk if by what you mean by display settings you changed the resolution...idk..

use the drivers and utilities disk and see if theres anything on it like video drivers. if not look up a program that scans your computer and finds out what ur built in graphics card is and have it automatically download that for you. if that doesn't work then idk, sorry :P.
