Need computer literate person. Possible graphics card prob. Elongated web pages.?

I no nothing about computers I like printers!

I had new computer in Feb with Vistas Home premium.

Worked great and graphics really good and it was fast.

For a while it's been slowing and forever saying it has to close x, y, or z programme as it's not responding, then yesterday it froze and a message come up that the USB was disconnected! There was nothing disconnected so I turned it off and restarted it and they it worked again.

Still being a pain so had enough and decided to wipe it and restore to factory settings - system restore was doing nothing to help.

Wiped yesterday and nothing but problems with the look of pages etc since.

Called for support and very nice man talked me through many options to get it back as it was when I first had it and in the end he said he could do more and I'd have to have a tec from Fujitsu to sort it has it could be its graphics card and it's confused about how it needs to display things.

These are some of the things that are not right with it:

The pages are elongated and there are big gaps down the side of pages that used to fill the screen.

The text is small and very thin.

The graphics are blurry on some things.

It is not showing any options on documents like file etc so I can not send any documents to anywhere else and any documents I have manged to send to computer I have had to right click properties and send each one individual as the 'invert all' or 'select all' option are not there, just organise. view and burn and that's it. There isn't even the close programme button in the left hand corner I have use the red cross to close.

Some picture I saved onto discs and UBS before I wiped it cannot open and are showing up as a paint brush with a blob of paint by them!

If I adjust the magnification this makes the words very unatural looking and uncomfortable to look at and a bit blurry.

My tool bars are about half the depth they were before I reset and even my Word 2007 looks strange and when it opens the title is half the size it used to be as well and all its fonts are showing as thinner than they were.

When Messenger appears after start up the menu is also now only half way up the page instead of full length and the icon for it on the bottom bar is pixelated were as before it was lovely and smooth and glossy looking. The desk top icons are also a bit pixelated and the big clock that it on the side bar is only half as big as it was before.

The font about an 8 and the man tried to change it but it would not budge from it's small size.

This page I am writing on is only about 5 inches wide on my screen but I have a 20 inch screen!

Is it possible it's the graphic card or could it be something else? I know it is not anything I have done as the product support man could not get it right either!

Thanks for any kind answers that take into account I'm a computer no nothing!Need computer literate person. Possible graphics card prob. Elongated web pages.?
have you tried to reset your screen to factory settings. if so then you do have a graphics prob . try a different screen to make sure your screen is not the problem. if it does the same then you need a new graphics card. if your computer is a l/top then you need a new motherboard . if its a d/top then a new card which you can buy easily and fit yourself, just remember your anti static strap before you take the side off the computer and before you take the card from its esd bag.Need computer literate person. click and hold down on the page edge and drag it back to full size
When you did a fresh install did you install the latest and correct drivers for your graphic card. If not it wont work.

If you have the correct drivers installed and its still playing up remove the graphics card and use the on-board graphics. If this corrects the issue then your card is knackered and you need a new one.

Most graphic issues are caused by having incorrect or out dated drivers. what make/model is your card? Google it and download the drivers from the manufactures website. Im pretty sure you have a driver issue.

A driver is a piece of software which tells a piece of hardware what to do and how to do it. It allows higher-level computer programs to interact with a hardware device. Having the correct divers installed is vital or your P.C will play up big time.

I don't have a bashrc file in /etc. How can I edit my directory colors?

I already changed the regular colors in the console terminal, to blue fonts and cyan background, but my directory file names and executables are default colors. They don't match it. I looked for the bashrc file in the /etc, but it's not there. I want to add ';eval dircolors /etc/DIR_COLORS'; to it, according to a website I read, so that I can change the default folder colors. My linux system setup is just a text terminal. No splash login. Thanks.I don't have a bashrc file in /etc. How can I edit my directory colors?
Check in $HOME/.bashrc also.

LCD Resolution Question?

I just bought a 17 inch Acer LCD monitor for my HP Pavilion model 7955. A note on the front of the LCD monitor said ';Make sure your system supports 1280 x 1024 resolution';.

I went into display and looked at the settings and found that my computer would only go to 1024 x 768 resolution.

I sent an email to Acer but haven't heard back (they don't give out a tech support phone number or at least I couldn't see one).

I fooled around and now am able to change my resolution to 1280 x 1024........but now the font is so small in IE that and elder like me can barely see it!

Do I need to keep the resolution this high? Or can I go back to something that will allow me to see my screen a bit better?

I suppose the question is: How important is the resolution when it comes to LCD's?LCD Resolution Question?
it is purely what looks best for you, that is not a hardware fault...

the higher the resolution, the smaller everything is, 1024*768 i find to be perfect, it is nothing to do with the monitors quality, purely just size.LCD Resolution Question?
that is saying that the monitor cannot pass that resolution but you can use a lower resolution and you have how much your video card support you must say to the computer to show you only the resolutions the computer can use and is turned on by default

How do I restore my original settings for visuals on my PC?

Recently my family used my desktop PC while I was away at school and changed the settings for the font and display features so everything was bigger to see better. I adjusted the font size using Internet Explorer and I attempted to use Control Panel to fix the rest of the issues but to no avail. Currently no background images are showing up on web pages and some images are missing. Does anyone know how to restore these settings to how they were when I bought the computer? I tried to use System Restore, but it doesn't go back far enough to when I had used the computer last. Any help would be appreciated!How do I restore my original settings for visuals on my PC?
Im guessing it's the screen resolution. Using windows Xp? Right click the desktop or background, and click Properties. Press the 'settings' tab and move the dial to a higer pixel ratio. Try 1280 x 960. Hope this was your issue.

How do I become the Administrator of my computer, again?

I am using Vista in a Compaq laptop. I have fonts @Batang, @Dotum, etc. They are called the True Type Collection. If you happen to run your mouse over them when choosing a font, my computer locks up and all work is lost. I was told to go to the Font folder and just delete them. They will NOT delete. It seems I am not the Administrator of my personal computer anymore!!

Group and User Names are System, Me and TrustedInstaller. System and Me have permission to Read %26amp; excute and Read. TrustedInstaller has Full Control. Of course, I have tried to delete TrustedInstaller and I am not allowed.

How do I correct this problem? How did TrustedInstaller get on my computer and change my settings? How did these problem fonts get on my computer?How do I become the Administrator of my computer, again?

  • Windows XP display theme no longer existant?

    Ok, I have Windows XP on my computer. The display settings are set to have the taskbar, start menu and all the windows in XP Silver Theme. However, when I logged on this morning it was all in the classic theme. With the grey and blue. I customized the size and style of the font as well, which is no longer there.

    I tried to change it back to the XP Silver theme, but changing it back it not even possible. It is not shown when I go to the Windows and Buttons in the Appearance under Display Properties. All it has now is Windows Classic Style. Before it had that and Windows XP Style as possible choices.

    To try and fix it I have done a System Restore twice, nothing happened; I deleted things, like old and unused files and documents and cookies. I ran Disk Defragmentor, Disc Clean- Up, my spy-ware program, and still NOTHING!

    How can I get my XP display themes back?Windows XP display theme no longer existant?
    There's only one possible way to disable this, do this and update your result I'll try to help more if it doesn't resolve it.

    Right click ';My Computer'; and click properties (Or Windows button + Pause/Break) . Go to the tab that says ';Advanced'; In the ';Performance'; section click ';Settings';. On the first page (';Visual Effects';) you get you have a bunch of checks. Scroll down, the last one is ';Use visual styles on windows and buttons'; Check it (This turns on the Themes service of windows xp).

    This is what turns your XP themes on/off. Restart and try changing it again from the Display Appearance Configuration dialog. Or try using the radio buttons to ';Adjust for visual effects'; and then take them off one by one after you get it working.

    When you right-click/properties on your desktop, there's two tabs that have the XP option. In the ';Themes'; tab you need to have XP selected from the drop-down list for it to show up in the appearance tab, make sure you have this as well.

    The actual Theme for xp is located in:

    C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes and it's called luna.theme.

    Try browsing to it and double-clicking it (Make sure you have the visual options enabled though).Windows XP display theme no longer existant?
    I know EXACTLY what this problem is. I have had it happen to myself many of times. The Theme Service is probably turned off and what you need to do is to turn it back on. What you must do is click the ';Start'; menu and then on ';Control Panel.'; After you do that click on ';Administrative Tools'; which I think that you must be your computer administrator to be able to possibly access this program. After that click on ';Services.'; Click and hold the scrool bar and scroll down to the ';T's'; and at the end of the ';T's'; you should find ';Themes.'; Click once on ';Themes'; NOT TWICE, ONLY ONCE. At the top left corner of that little screen there should be a blue underlined word that says ';Start'; and the whole sentence should say ';Start the service.'; Click on that. Then it will either automatically switch back to the xp silver theme, or you will have to go right back to your desktop and right click and then click ';Properties'; and then just turn it back on to the xp silver theme and that should do it because it sure did do it for me and now every time that I have that same problem I just do that! If you still need more help after doing this and it doesn't work or something happened feel free to e-mail me at arvettedude@yahoo.com!
    See if there are still programs that came with XP and if so, go to display and it should let you change it.

    Mugen EvE Lifebar Help??

    How do I install lifebars for EvE screenpack in Mugen? I've looked at videos on youtube and found nothing. Since it's EvE it has a different system and junk. I tried adding the FNT files to the font folder and nothing changed.Mugen EvE Lifebar Help??
    I know the EvE you are talking about is a pc game called EvE Online.

    Anyway

    adding the font...

    you should add the EvE fonts to:

    Mugen/fonts/';eve's fnt fonts goes in here';

    or

    Mugen/data/eve/fonts/';fnt files';

    the life bar needs to be edited so it could link and work with the Mugen system

    the lifebar should be like this:

    Mugen/data/eve folder/';containing the lifebar files';.

    When you have put the files in the right place do this editing:

    Go to Mugen鈫扗ata鈫扴ystem

    Scroll down to [Files]

    and do this editing

    wfight = data/ggxbars/fight.def';

    change the data/ggx etc to the location of the eve folder which should be something like this:

    fight = data/eve/fight.def
